Opportunity for Spoken Word Artists: Inspire, Create, Share

We are seeking volunteers to contribute to our exciting ‘Spoken Minds’ group,  which runs over 6 weeks using spoken word/performance poetry to enhance wellbeing and mental health recovery.

  • Gain facilitation experience
  • Support individuals in recovery from mental health difficulties
  • Provide feedback and inspiration to emerging artists
  • Discuss your own journey and work
  • Travel expenses reimbursed for approximately 2 hours of your time

The ethos of Spoken Minds is to support individuals to develop skills independent of mental health services including confidence, communication and creativity. We bring the Spoken Word community directly to those who frequently feel excluded from opportunities due to their experience of mental health illness. We celebrate diversity, individuality and self-expression so that people may speak through poetry, and are not labelled by a diagnosis.

In the final session, during our ‘Open Space’ workshop, participants are given the opportunity to perform the work they have produced in and outside of the group with feedback from currently performing artists.  There will also be time for you to share your own work with the group.

“It was an absolute delight to be a visiting poet in this programme. Some of the writing and performances blew me away, and I could see some of the clients growing a little taller over the course of just one session.”Hannah Chutzpah, performance poet

“This group has given [me] peace of mind that I am a creative person with potential. It shows you the way to look inside of yourself and bring out the hidden gems that were hiding.”Spoken Minds participant
